The
establishment of the city of Wellington coincided with the invention and
early development of photography. Although the visual record of the first
two decades of the capital comes principally from sketches and paintings,
often by agents of the New Zealand Company, within a few years colonists
were enthusiastically documenting the growth of their town using the new
medium. As
more sensitive photographic materials were developed and exposure times
reduced, images of static and empty streets were replaced by ones showing
the hustle and bustle of everyday life. The
images come from collections of the Alexander Turnbull Library, National
Library of New Zealand, Te Puna Matauranga o Aotearoa; the library's assistance
is gratefully acknowledged. The
packs include twelve high-quality cards (two of each type) with images
printed as duotones. Blank inside, they have detailed descriptions and
commentaries on the back. Envelopes are also included. They are shrink-wrapped
inside an attractive cover and retail for $17.73 + GST ($19.95 incl GST).
They are ideal for personal stationery and for gifts. Prices can be negotiated
for inclusion of your corporate logo on bulk orders. PDF version of cards (420kB). For further details ring Wellington
